LIVING ABOVE MEDIOCRITY

“To the angel of the church in Laodicea write: These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the ruler of God’s creation. I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth.” (Revelation 3: 14-16)

A prominent businessman who was enrolling his son in a well known university shook his head as he examined the schools catalogue of studies. “Does my son have to take all these courses?’ he asked the dean. “Can’t you make it shorter? He wants to get out quickly.”

“Certainly, he can take a shorter course,” replied the dean. “But it all depends on what your son wants to be. When God wants to make an oak tree He takes twenty years, but He only takes two months to make a squash.”

Short cuts are attractive, and you are free to take the easy way out, but that’s being ordinary, one of the crowd, being mediocre.

In this scripture God calls mediocrity, lukewarmness. The people of the Laodicean church were neither hot nor cold, they were complacent, they were unconcerned with accomplishment and they were just going through the motions. The world is full of mediocrity. Mediocrity is the state of being moderate to inferior in quality; ordinary. God did not create us to be mediocre, ordinary people.

Man did not evolve from some ameba in the ocean millions of years ago, like the scientists want us to believe. We did not evolve from the monkey as the evolutionists tell us. I don’t know about you but I was created in the image and likeness of God (Genesis 1:27). We’re extraordinary in every way through Jesus Christ. God gifted us with the ability to think, to express ourselves with words, to love and to know that we were created by Him. 

We are God’s creation. His character went into the creation of every one of us. When you feel worthless or even begin to hate yourself, remember that God is in you, ready and willing to work within you.

Always remember who you are; we are His children, we are His church. We have the promise of His abiding love and presence. We are heirs of heaven. We can do anything through Christ. Don’t settle for less than your best. God has given us His spirit, His Word, His blessings, He has given you gifts. Now he expects us to do our best for His honor and glory.

If you are living a mediocre existence, your soul is in danger. The very clear message from God is that He is fed up with and will not tolerate mediocrity in his people.

¿QUIERE RENDIRSE?

 Al oírlas, muchos de sus discípulos dijeron: Dura es esta palabra; ¿quién la puede oír? Sabiendo Jesús en sí mismo que sus discípulos murmuraban de esto, les dijo: ¿Esto os ofende?... Desde entonces muchos de sus discípulos volvieron atrás, y ya no andaban con él. Dijo entonces Jesús a los doce: ¿Queréis acaso iros también vosotros? Le respondió Simón Pedro: Señor, ¿a quién iremos? Tú tienes palabras de vida eterna.” Juan 6:60-68

La peregrinación de la vida está lejos de ser fácil. Hay todo clases de sacrificios, tropiezos y dificultades que hacen que nuestro viaje sea difícil. Hay tiempos cuando nuestra caminata parece demasiado difícil de soportar; “me rindo,” queremos decir. Las palabras de la fe cristiana para esta circunstancia son articuladas en un diálogo entre Jesús y sus discípulos que se centran sobre las severas exigencias y la dificultad de Sus enseñanzas.

Algunos de sus discípulos expresaron sus sentimientos, “Esta enseñanza es demasiado fuerte. ¿Quién puede aceptarlo?” sus murmuraciones tuvo que ver no sólo con sus enseñanzas, sino también con su frustración en el manejo de los desafíos de la vida en general. Sabiendo de su malestar, Jesús se dirigió a Sus discípulos preguntándoles simplemente, “¿Le hace esto querer rendirse?” Varios de ellos ya se habían ido. Jesús entonces les pregunta, “¿Y vos, también quieren irse?” Había un verdadero tirón en la dirección de rendirse. ¿Quién sabe cuántas veces Sus discípulos tuvieron que tratar con sentimientos de frustración? Rindiéndose, era una opción atractiva.

Para poder entender mejor el contexto de esta porción, vamos a lo que dijo el Señor en otra ocasión; “Entonces respondiendo Pedro, le dijo: He aquí, nosotros lo hemos dejado todo, y te hemos seguido; ¿qué, pues, tendremos? Y Jesús les dijo: De cierto os digo que en la regeneración, cuando el Hijo del Hombre se siente en el trono de su gloria, vosotros que me habéis seguido también os sentaréis sobre doce tronos, para juzgar a las doce tribus de Israel. Y cualquiera que haya dejado casas, o hermanos, o hermanas, o padre, o madre, o mujer, o hijos, o tierras, por mi nombre, recibirá cien veces más, y heredará la vida eterna” (Mato 19:27-29). Pedro le dice al Señor; “Nosotros hemos dejado todo, ¿Qué nos va a tocar?” Yo creo que esta pregunta es una que nos ocupa a todos, hay vez en cuando.

Parece que le ponemos más importancia en lo que nos va a tocar que en la generosidad y la bondad del Señor para con nosotros. La cuestión de las recompensas y lo que vamos a recibir, ¡parece que nos estorba! El Señor les responde, “Mi van ayudar a juzgar a las doce tribus de Israel.” Yo creo que el Señor está diciendo, “¿Porque me presentan cuentas?” “¿Tienen miedo ustedes de perder, o que no van a ganar nada?” “¡Creen que después de la jornada los voy a dejar sin nada!” Queridos hermanos hay siempre recordar y entender que lo que hacemos para el Señor no es en vano.

Nuestra relación con Dios no es cuestión de contabilidad, ¡que nos debe El Señor! El es más amplio que esto, porque no hay limite a Su generosidad y bondad. Después de todo, ¿con que nos va premiar el Señor? ¡Con la vida eterna!

La respuesta no estaba en dándole la espalda, pero en acercarse a Jesús que los discípulos encontraron su equilibrio otra vez. Pedro contestó la pregunta del Señor sobre rendirse diciendo: “Señor, ¿a quién iremos? Tú tienes palabras de vida eterna.” Consciente que las cuestiones no fueron solucionadas, ni simplificadas, Pedro rechazó retirarse y los demás estuvieron de acuerdo. Ellos mantuvieron su lealtad a Dios.

DO YOU WANT TO GIVE UP?

“Many therefore of his disciples, when they had heard this, said, This is an hard saying; who can hear it? When Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at it, he said unto them, Doth this offend you?... From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him. Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away? Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.” John 6:60-68

Life’s pilgrimage is far from easy. There are all sorts of sacrifices, stumbling blocks and hardships which make our journey hard. There are times when our journey seems too difficult to endure; “I give up,” we want to say. The words of Christian faith for this circumstance are articulated in a dialogue between Jesus and his disciples centering upon the severe demands and difficulty of His teachings.

Some of his disciples expressed their feelings, “This teaching is too hard. Who can accept it?” Their grumbling had to do not only with His teachings, but also with their frustration in handling life’s challenges in general. Knowing of their unrest, Jesus addressed His disciples by asking them simply, “Does this make you want to give up?” A number of them did give up. Jesus then asks, “And you, would you also like to leave?” There was a real pull in the direction of quitting. Who knows how many times His disciples had to deal with feelings of frustration? Giving up, was an enticing option.

To be able to understand better the context of this portion, we go to what the Lord said in another occasion; “Then Peter said to him, “We’ve given up everything to follow you. What will we get out of it?”Jesus replied, “I assure you that when the world is made new and the Son of Man sits upon his glorious throne, you who have been my followers will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.  And everyone who has given up houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or property, for my sake, will receive a hundred times as much in return and will inherit eternal life. (Matthew 19:27-29). Peter said to the Lord; “We have left everything: what are we going to get?” I believe that this question is one that occupies all of us, every now and then.

It seems that we place more importance in what we are going to receive instead of the generosity and kindness of the Lord towards us. The question of the rewards and what we are going to receive seems to hinder us! The Lord answers them, “You’re going to help me judge the twelve tribes of Israel.” I believe that the Lord is saying: “Why are you presenting me with a bill?”  “Are you afraid of losing, or that you are not going to gain anything?” “Do you believe that after the journey I'm going to leave you with nothing?” Dear brother we should always remember and understand that what we do for the Lord is not in vain.

Our relation with God is not a question of accounting, what does the Lord owe us! He is much greater than this, because there is no limit to His generosity and kindness. After everything, with what is the Lord going to reward us? With eternal life!

It was not in turning away, but in drawing closer to Jesus that the disciples found their footing once again. Peter answered Jesus’ question about quitting by saying: “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.” Aware that the issues were not solved nor simplified, Peter refused to withdraw and the others agreed. They maintained their allegiance to God.

¿POR QUÉ NOS HACE ESPERAR DIOS?

“Pacientemente esperé a Jehová, Y se inclinó a mí, y oyó mi clamor.” Salmo 40:1

“Pero los que esperan a Jehová tendrán nuevas fuerzas; levantarán alas como las águilas; correrán, y no se cansarán; caminarán, y no se fatigarán.” Isaías 40:31

La mayoría de la gente no puede soportar la espera. La espera es un verdadero problema para la mayoría de nosotros. ¿Por qué tenemos problemas con la espera? La mayoría de nosotros estamos dispuestos a hacer cualquier cosa para Dios, pero no esperar. ¿Por qué Dios muchas veces nos hace esperar? Algunos han llamado a esta "la edad de microondas." Queremos todo al momento. No es así con el Señor. El tiene su tiempo para todo.

Si vamos a crecer en el Señor, vamos a tener que aprender el secreto de esperar en Dios. El apresurar a Dios es encontrar fallas en él. Dios nunca llega tarde, pero no siempre viene cuando usted lo quiere que el  venga.

¿Se ha enojado alguna vez usted con Dios o se ha frustrado porque Él no hizo lo qué usted pensó que Él debería hacer cuando usted pensó que Él debería haberlo hecho?

TRES RAZONES POR LAS QUE DIOS NOS REQUIERE ESPERAR

A. Para Condicionar La Facultad Humana Para Recibir (Éxodo 24:12-16)

La espera es un acondicionamiento que prepara el espíritu humano para recibir de Dios. Como Moisés en el Monte Sinaí y los Discípulos en el Día de Pentecostés ellos tuvieron que esperar en Dios para recibir. La mayoría de nosotros nunca podría recibir lo que Dios tiene para nosotros hasta que él nos ha pasado por un tiempo de espera.

B. PARA CALMAR EL ESPÍRITU HUMANO AGITADO (Salmo 37:7)

La mayoría de la gente podría encontrar a Dios y oír Su voz si ellos se calmaran, estuvieran quietos y dejar a su espíritu humano  que se calmara. Un espíritu humano acalorado puede causar más confusión que cualquier demonio.

C. PARA ENSEÑAR REVERENCIA A UN DIOS SANTO (Habacuc 2:20)

Hemos perdido nuestro sentido de la reverencia. Tenemos que descubrir la presencia de Dios y  su majestad. Tenemos que aprender a acercarnos a Dios con reverencia y esperar en silencio para escuchar lo que tiene que decir. Debemos reconocer que Él está en control y sabe lo que está haciendo.

Un hombre aprendió una lección cuando él fue a Disneylandia con sus hijos. Él llegó al parque antes de que se abriera. Había estado lloviendo esa mañana, muy pocas personas estaban allí. Ellos entraron y comenzaron a ir a los diferentes paseos. Ellos llegaron al primer paseo y entraron inmediatamente porque no había ninguna línea. Ellos fueron al siguiente paseo y encontraron la misma cosa otra vez; ninguna línea, ninguna espera. ¡Entonces ellos fueron a su paseo favorito y no había ninguna línea! Ellos no lo podían creer, ninguna línea y ninguna espera. Ellos entraron sin tener que esperar. Después del paseo, ellos se fueron a otro paseo. Su hija de 12 años lo miró y dijo, “Este no es la diversión, esto no parece Disneylandia hoy, hay muy pocas gente aquí y no es tan divertido”.

Mientras ellos caminaban por el parque revisando unos paseos más, el clima comenzó a despejar, el sol salió y más gente comenzó a aparecer en el parque. Ellos volvieron para montar su paseo favorito otra vez. Esta vez ellos tuvieron que esperar un rato porque había una línea de gente. Esta vez tuvieron que esperar 15 minutos. Después de que ellos montaron el paseo, todos ellos  dijeron, “¡guau, que tremendo! Esto fue más divertido que la primera vez”.

Entonces se dio cuenta, por qué fue más divertido. Fue porque, ellos tuvieron que esperar. La espera realmente hizo el paseo mejor. De la misma manera, Dios nos hace esperar por cosas porque él quiere hacerlas mejor para nosotros. ¡Él notó otra cosa, que los mejores paseos tenían las líneas más largas! ¡Así que, tal vez lo mejor que Dios tiene para nosotros tiene la espera más larga!   

WHY DOES GOD MAKE US WAIT

“I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry.” Psalms 40:1

“But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31

Most people cannot stand waiting. Waiting is a real problem for most of us. Why do we have problems with waiting? Most of us are ready and willing to do anything for God, but not waiting. Why does God many times make us wait?  Some have called this the “microwave age.” We want everything right now. It is not that way with God. He has his time for everything.

If we are going to grow in the Lord, we are going to have to learn the secret of waiting on God. To hurry God is to find fault in Him. God is never late, but He does not always come when you want Him too.

Have you ever gotten angry with God or frustrated because He did not do what you thought He should do when you thought He should do it?

THREE REASONS WHY GOD REQUIRES US TO WAIT

A. TO CONDITION THE HUMAN FACULTY TO RECEIVE (Exodus 24:12-16)

The waiting time is a conditioning that prepares the human spirit to receive from God. Like Moses on Mount Sinai and the Disciples on the Day of Pentecost they had to wait on God to receive. Most of us could never receive what God has for us until he has put us through a time of waiting.

B. TO SETTLE THE RESTLESS HUMAN SPIRIT (Psalms 37:7)

Most people could find God and hear His voice if they would just set still, be quit and let their human spirit settle. A heated human spirit can cause more confusion than any demon.

C. TO TEACH REVERENCE FOR A HOLY GOD (Habakkuk 2:20)

We have lost our sense of reverence. We need to discover God’s presence and majesty. We must learn to approach God reverently and wait silently to hear what He has to say. We must acknowledge that He is in control and knows what he is doing.

A man learned a lesson when he went to Disney Land with his children. He arrived at the park before it opened. It had been raining that morning, very few people were there. They went in and started to go to the different rides. They made their first stop and walked right in because there was no line. They went to the next ride and found the same thing again; no line, no waiting. Then they went to their favorite ride and there was no line! They couldn’t believe it, no line and no waiting. They walked right in. After they rode, they started waking to another ride. His 12 year old daughter looked at him and said, “This is not fun, it doesn’t feel like Disney Land today, there are very few people here and it’s not as much fun”. As they checked out a few more rides, the weather started to clear up, the sun came out and more people started to show up in the park.

They went back to ride their favorite ride again. This time they had to wait for a while because there was a line of people. They waited for 15 minutes. After they rode the ride, they all said, “Wow that was great. It was more fun than the first time”. Then it hit him. Why was it more fun, because, they had to wait? The wait actually made the ride better. In the same way, God makes us wait for things because He wants to make them better for us. He noticed another thing, that the best rides had the longest lines! So maybe the best God has for us has the longest wait!   

¿ERES UNA PERLA O SOLO UN GRANO DE ARENA ?

"Y ante todo, tened entre vosotros ferviente amor; porque el amor cubrirá multitud de pecados. (1 Pedro 4:8)

Qué hermosas son las perlas ¿Verdad?. Pero muchos no saben que son producto del dolor. Toda perla es el producto de una ostra que ha sido herida por un grano de arena, este grano de arena ha entrado en su interior.

Una ostra que no ha sido herida por un grano de arena no puede producir una perla. En la parte interna de la ostra se encuentra una sustancia llamada “Nácar” y cuando un grano de arena ha penetrado en la ostra, ésta lo recubre con capas de nácar para poder protegerse. El resultado, se va formando una bella y deslumbrante perla.

¿Alguna vez te has sentido herido por las palabras, o actitudes de una persona? ¿Te han acusado en decir cosas que nunca has hablado? ¿Han rechazado o ridiculizadas tus ideas? ¿Te han culpado de hacer algo que jamás hiciste? ¿Has sufrido alguna vez los golpes de la indiferencia? ¿Te han herido aquellas personas que menos esperabas? ¿Sientes que no te valoran como realmente lo mereces? Entonces debes de perdonar y hacer de tu herida una gran perla.

Cubriendo tus heridas con varias capas de amor, recuerda que cuanto más cubierta esté tu herida, menos dolor vas a sentir. Y por el contrario, si no la cubres de amor, esa herida va a permanecer abierta y te dolerá más y más cada día, se va a infectar con el resentimiento, la amargura y peor aún, nunca va a cicatrizar.

En nuestra sociedad, podemos ver muchas “Ostras vacías” no porque no hayan sido heridas, sino porque no supieron perdonar, comprender y transformar el dolor en una preciosa perla. Siempre recuerde que una perla es una herida cubierta por el amor.

ARE YOU A PEARL OR JUST A GRAIN OF SAND?

"And above all things have fervent love for one another, for love will cover a multitude of sins.” (I Peter 4:8)

How beautiful are the pearls right. But many do not know they are the product of pain. Every pearl is the product of an oyster that has been hurt by a grain of sand that has entered inside of it.

An oyster that has not been hurt by a grain of sand cannot produce any pearl. In the inside of the oyster is a substance called "Mother of Pearl" as a grain of sand has penetrated the oyster, it covers it with layers of nacre to protect themselves. The result is forming a beautiful and dazzling pearl.

Have you ever been hurt by the words or attitudes of a person? Have you been accused of saying things you've never spoken? Have your ideas been rejected or ridiculed? Have you been guilty of doing something you've never did? Have you ever suffered the blows of indifference? Have you ever been hurt by those who you least expected? Do you feel that you're not valued as you deserve? Then you must forgive and make your wound a large pearl.

Covering your wound with several layers of love, remember that the more you cover your wound, less pain you will feel. And on the other hand, if you do not cover your wound with love, the wound will remain open and will hurt more and more every day, it will be infected with resentment, bitterness and even worse, will never heal.

In our society, we can see many "empty Oysters" not because they have not been hurt, but because they failed to forgive, understand and transform pain into a beautiful pearl. Always remember a pearl is a wound covered by love.
