GUERRA ESPIRITUAL

"Pues aunque andamos en la carne, no militamos según la carne; porque las armas de nuestra milicia no son carnales, sino poderosas en Dios para la destrucción de fortalezas, derribando argumentos y toda altivez que se levanta contra el conocimiento de Dios, y llevando cautivo todo pensamiento a la obediencia a Cristo, y estando prontos para castigar toda desobediencia, cuando vuestra obediencia sea perfecta." II Corintios 10:3-6

LAS FRENTES DE LA BATALLA (Hay dos frentes de batalla para cada cristiano)

A. LA PROBLEMAS QUE NOSOTROS MISMOS CAUSAMOS

Estas problemas nos vienen por nuestra propia negligencia o indiferencia (no pagar sus cuentas; no tomando cuidado de su salud; no hacer mantenimiento en nuestro auto o casa).

B. PROBLEMAS Y BATALLAS QUE SON CAUSADOS POR SATANAS

El diablo usara cualquier cosa o persona que él pueda para hacernos batalla. Usara gente, tal como familiares, amigos, vecinos, compañeros de trabajo y aun extraños. Usara cosas. Como un trabajo, carro, aparatos mecánicos, el tiempo, música, libros, Televisión, etc.

Aunque Satanás usa cosas y gente, nuestro enemigo no es una persona especifica o la cosas que se está usando. Nuestro enemigo es el diablo.

C. ¡El diablo es un enemigo ya derrotado! Jesús lo derroto en la cruz. Pero nosotros necesitamos que apropiar los trabajos del Calvario en nuestras vidas diarias. Si podemos dominar la carne y sus deseos. ¡Podremos conquistar al diablo fácil! ¡Él sabe que no puede competir con el santo de Dios quien ha conquistado su propia vida y conoce a su Dios! Jesús dijo en San Lucas 10:19 “He aquí os doy potestad ({exousia}autoridad)… sobre toda fuerza ({dunamis} capacidad milagrosa) del enemigo…”

1. Efesios 6:11: “Vestíos de toda la armadura de Dios, para que podáis estar firmes contra las asechanzas del diablo.”

2. ASECHANZAS: (Methodeias) Significa los medios, los varios medios, planes y esquemas usado por el diablo.

3. LUCHA (pale): Significa golpear, empujón, tirar con violencia e intensidad. Se refiere a la guerra en general entre los santos y espíritus malos que nos quieren destruir.

4. Así, vemos que nuestra batalla no es con carne y sangre (personas o cosas) pero una batalla espiritual con el enemigo de nuestras almas.

CUATRO TERMINOS PARA DESCRIBIR LOS ESPIRITUS CON LOS QUE LUCHAMOS

“Porque no tenemos lucha contra sangre y carne, sino contra principados, contra potestades, contra los gobernadores de las tinieblas de este siglo, contra huestes espirituales de maldad en las regiones celestes” (Efesios 6:12)

A. Pablo usa cuatro palabras descriptivas para hacernos comprender exactamente con que y con quien estamos peleando. Hay cuatro niveles:

1. PRINCIPADOS

Estos son los gobernantes principales o seres del nivel más alto y orden en el reino satánico. Cada nación tiene un principado sobre ella.

2. POTESTADES

Estos son esos quien deriven su poder de, y quien ejecuta la voluntad de los gobernantes principales (principados). Influencias sobrenaturales en el gobierno.

3. LOS GOBERNADORES DE LAS TINIEBLAS

Estos son los gobernantes en el mundo espiritual, o señores de la edad. Tal como la lascivia, depresión, miedo, perversión, etc. Estas pueden plagar a una persona personalmente (Efesios 2:2).

4. HUESTES ESPIRITUALES

Estos son los espíritus malos enviados por Satanás.

B. El diablo es, según Efesios 2:2: “…príncipe de la potestad del aire…”

C. En Apocalipsis 2:12-13: “… donde está el trono de Satanás… donde mora Satanás”, esto nos revela que la influencia satánica y control solo reside donde los hombres le han dado su voluntad y autoridad. Satanás no se deshizo del orden angélico de autoridad, pero lo guardo y lo usa donde los hombres le dan control. En esta manera ha ganado alguna medida de control de muchos gobiernos y sistemas mundiales. Recuerde esto, el dominio del enemigo es solo territorial. ¡No es el gobernador y controlador del mundo! La Biblia dice en Salmos 24:1: “De Jehová es la tierra y su plenitud; El mundo…”

LAS LIMITACIONES DE SATANAS

Satanás tiene muchas limitaciones. No es tan poderoso como muchos lo proclaman que es. El no es quien muchos piensan él es.

A. EL NO ESTA IGUAL CON DIOS

El fue lanzado del cielo por declararse igual con Dios. Fue el pecado original en el cielo. Lucifer se atrevió exaltarse para ser como Dios cuando él claramente no lo era.

B. ES UN ANGEL CAIDO

Está sujeto a las limitaciones de un ángel. Es equivalente a un ángel. 

C.  NO ES OMINIPOTENTE (Todo poderoso)

Solo Dios tiene todo el poder. El poder de Satanás está limitado por lo que Dios le permite hacer en la tierra. Él no puede hacer más ni menos (I Juan 4:4).

D. NO ES OMNISCIENTE (Todo lo sabe)

Aunque él no tiene el poder de Dios de  “saber todo,” si tiene más conocimiento que los humano. El ha estado estudiando lo hábitos de lo humanos por más de 6,000 años. Él está más consciente del fin del tiempo que nosotros. Él sabe que su tiempo es corto.

E. NO ES OMNIPRESENTE (Estar en todos lugares a la misma vez)

Dios llena el universo. Satanás está limitado a un lugar a la vez, porque es un ángel caído. Él pude  ir de un lugar a otro rápidamente como un ángel, pero no puede estar en dos lugares a la misma vez. Aquí es donde entra en juego el comando satánico. Él manda sus espíritus que vayan de aquí para allá para que hagan su voluntad.

F. EL NO CONOCE SUS PENSAMIENTOS NI PUEDE LEER SU MENDE

Usted puede orar en su mente (silenciosamente), o en El Espíritu (en lenguas), y él no puede saber lo que usted le está pidiendo a Dios o reprendiendo en su mente.

Él ni sabe si las tentaciones que pone en su mente están teniendo efecto a menos que usted los manifiesta exteriormente o medite en ellos. Cuando es tentado, comience a pensar buenos pensamientos, ore o alaba y adore a Dios etc. Los pensamientos malos huirán y la estrategia de Satanás es derrotada.

NO SOMOS IGNORANTE DE SUS MAQUINACIONES (II Corintios 2:11)

A. Satanás es un mentiroso y el padre de todo lo mentirosos. Toda mentira viene de él. Su mentira más grande es que él tiene poder sobre su vida, su familia, su trabajo, etc. ¡Esto no es verdad! Cuando entendemos sus mentiras, llegamos a ser más poderosos en nuestra lucha contra la maldad.

B. Él no puede tomar una ventaja sobre nosotros si conocemos sus trucos. ¿Cómo llegamos a conocer sus trucos? Leer en las Escrituras donde el  trato de tropezar a otros hombres y mujeres de Dios. Él todavía usa las mismas tácticas hoy.

LAS ARMAS DE NUESTRA MILICIA (II Corintios 10: 3-4)

¿Qué armas de guerra están a la disposición del Hijo de Dios?

A. EL NOMBRE DE JESUS

A la mención del nombre de Jesús el diablo tiembla. Tenemos poder de abogado. Se nos ha dado el derecho de usar Su nombre porque somos sus hijos y hemos sido bautizados en Su nombre (Hechos 2:38; Marcos 16:17, Lucas 10:17).

B. SU PODER (El Espíritu Santo) Y SU AUTORIDAD EN NOSOTROS

Lucas 10:19: “… He aquí os doy potestad (exousia/autoridad)…sobre toda fuerza (dunamis/capacidad milagrosa) del enemigo…” La palabra “poder” viene de la palabra griega “dunamis” (Hechos 1:8). De esta palabra griega se derribe la palabra “dinamita”.  Mateo 10:1: “Entonces llamando a sus doce discípulos, les dio autoridad sobre los espíritus inmundos, para que los echasen fuera, y para sanar toda enfermedad y toda dolencia.”

C. ORACION Y AYUNO (Mateo 17:21)

Donde hay mucha oración y ayuno, hay mucho poder; donde hay porca oración y ayuno hay poco poder; donde no hay oración y ayuno no hay nada de poder. El diablo no puede contra un Hijo de Dios que ora y ayuna.

SOMOS PARTE DE UNA IGLESIA PODEROSA (II Corintios 10:4-6)

A. DESTRUCCION DE FORTALEZAS

Le hacemos frente a las filosofías del día que compite por una fortaleza en sociedad. Esto incluye tales cosas como el Humanismo, la evolución, el aborto, la Edad Nueva, sistemas de valores inmorales, etc. Le hacemos frente a los dogmas y tradiciones de religiones de hombres

Le hacemos frente a pensamientos y actitudes de personas Ateas que piensan cambiar las leyes de nuestra nación a leyes y normas ante-Dios.

B. DERRIBANDO ARGUMENTOS

Desafiamos y tenemos la intención de destruir, mediante la oración, toda teoría, razonamiento, religión, mitología, metafísica, doctrinas sublimes, o la filosofía expuesta para dividir o desafiar el cocimiento de Dios.  

C. LLEVANDO CAUTIVO

Tomamos preso cada pensamiento y los llevamos en cautividad a obedecer a Cristo. Pensamientos lascivos, vanos y malos de todo tipo, son derribados y hechos obedientes a la ley de Dios. Que incluyen todo pensamiento que esta contrario a la virtud, pureza y rectitud.

D. TENIENDO UNA PRONTIDUD

Estamos listos a todo tiempo para purgar a cualquier cosa oponiéndose a la Palabra de Dios.

SPIRITUAL WARFARE

"For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled." II Corinthians 10:3-6

BATTLE FRONTS (There are two battle-fronts for every Christian)

A. Self-inflicted or self perpetuated problems.

These problems are brought on by our own negligence or indifference (i.e.-not paying your bills; not taking care of your health; not doing proper maintenance on your auto or home.)

B. Satanic-inflicted or satanic- perpetuated problems and battles.

The devil will use anything or anyone he can to do spiritual battle with you. He will use people, such as family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, even strangers. He will use things, such as a job, car, mechanical devices, weather, music, books, TV, etc.

Though Satan uses people and things our enemy is not the specific person or the things being used, the enemy is the devil.

C. The devil is already a defeated foe! Jesus took care of him for us. But we do need to appropriate the works of Calvary in our daily lives. If we can ever master the flesh and its desires, the conquest of the devil is a snap! He is, and knows that he is, no match for the saint of God who has conquered their self-life and knows their God! Jesus said in Luke 10:19 "…..Behold, I give you power (exousia/authority)……over all power (dunamis/miraculous ability) of the enemy……"

1. Ephesians 6:11: “Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil”.

2. Wiles - Methodius (Greek) Meaning methods, the various means, plans and schemes used by the devil.

3. Wrestle - pale (Greek) meaning to strike, thrust, throw with violence and intensity. It refers to the warfare in general between the saints and evil spirits out to destroy us.

4. So, we see that our battle is not with flesh and blood (persons or things) but a spiritual battle with the enemy of our soul.

FOUR TERMS TO DESCRIBE THE SPIRITS WE BATTLE (Ephesians 6:12) 

A. Paul uses four descriptive words to make us understand exactly what and who we are fighting with. As you can see, there are four levels of spiritual warfare.

1. PRINCIPALITIES

These are the Chief rulers or beings of the highest rank and order in the satanic kingdom. Every single nation in the world has a principality over it.

2. POWERS

These are those who derive their power from and who execute the will of the chief rulers (principalities) Supernatural influences in government.

3. RULERS OF THE DARKNESS

These are the spirit-world rulers, or lords of the age. Such as lust, depression, fear, perversion, etc. These may plague a person personally. (Ephesians 2:2)

4. SPIRITUAL WICKEDNESS

These are the wicked spirits sent by Satan.

B. The devil is, according to Ephesians 2:2 "…the prince of the power of the air…”

C. In Revelation 2:12-13 "…Satan’s seat…..where Satan dwelleth…." reveals to us that satanic influence and control only resides where men have given him their will and authority to exercise. Satan did not do away with the angelic order of authority, but kept it and uses it where men give him control. In this manner he has gained some measure of control of many world systems and governments. Remember this; the enemy’s domain is only territorial. He is not the ruler and controller of the world! The Bible says in Psalms 24:1 "….The earth is the Lord’s, and the fullness thereof."

SATAN’S LIMITATIONS

Satan has many limitations. He is not as powerful as many proclaim him to be. He is not who many think he is.

A. HE IS NOT EQUAL WITH GOD

Satan was cast out of heaven for declaring himself equal with God. It was the original sin in heaven. Lucifer dared to exalt himself to be like God when he clearly was not.

B. HE IS A FALLEN ANGEL

He is subject to the limitations of an angel. He is equivalent to an angel.

C. HE IS NOT OMNIPOTENT (all powerful)

Only God has all power. Satan’s power is limited by what God allows him to do in the earth. He can do no more or no less (I John 4:4).

D. HE IS NOT OMNISCIENT (all knowing)

Though he does not have the "all knowing" power of God, he does have more knowledge than mere humanity. He has been studying humanity’s habits for 6,000 years. He is more aware of the end of time than we are. He knows that his time is short.

E. HE IS NOT OMNIPRESENT (all places at once)

God fills the universe. Because Satan is a fallen angel he is limited to one place at a time. He can go from place to place as swiftly as an angel, but he cannot be in two places at once. This is where satanic command comes into play. He orders spirits to go to and fro doing his will.

F. HE CANNOT KNOW YOUR THOUGHTS OR READ YOUR MIND

You can pray in your mind (silently), or in the spirit (in tongues), and he cannot know what you are asking God or rebuking in your mind.

He doesn't even know if the temptations he drops in your mind are working unless you manifest them outwardly or dwell on them. When you are tempted, start thinking good thoughts, pray, think of a worship chorus, etc. The evil thoughts will flee and Satan’s strategy is defeated.

WE’RE NOT IGNORANT OF HIS DEVICES (II Corinthians 2:11)

A. Satan is a liar and the father of all liars. All lies come from him. His biggest lie is that he has power over you, your life, your family, your job, etc. This is not true! As we understand his lies, we become more powerful in our fight against evil.

B. He cannot get an advantage over us if we know his tricks. How do we learn his tricks? Reading in the scripture where he tried to trip up other men and women of God. He still uses the same tactics today.

THE WEAPONS OF OUR WARFARE

What weapons of warfare are at the disposal of the child of God?

A. HIS NAME

At the sound of the name of Jesus the devil trembles. We have power of attorney. We have been given the right to use His name because we are his children and have been baptized in His name (Mark 16:17;Luke 10:17)

B. HIS POWER (Holy Ghost) AND AUTHORITY IN US

Luke 10:19 "…..Behold, I give you power (exousia/authority)………over ALL power (dunamis/miraculous ability) of the enemy……"

The word “power” comes from the Greek word DUNAMIS (Acts 1:8). From that Greek word we get the word “DYNAMITE”.

Matthew 10:1 “And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease.”

C. PRAYER AND FASTING (Matthew 17:21)

Where there is much prayer, there is much power; where there is little prayer, there is little power; where there is no prayer, there is no power at all. The devil can’t handle a child of God who prays and fasts.

D. THE BLOOD OF THE LAMB (Revelation 12:11)

YOU ARE PART OF A POWERFUL CHURCH (II Corinthians 10:4-6)

A. DESTRUCTION OF STRONGHOLDS

We stand against the philosophies of the day which are competing for a stronghold in society. This includes such things as Humanism, evolution, abortion, New Age, immoral value systems, etc. We stand against the dogma and tradition of manmade religion.

We stand against the thinking and attitudes of Godless people who intend to change the laws of our nation to anti-God laws and standards.

B. CASTING DOWN IMAGINATIONS

We defy and intend to destroy, through prayer, all theory, reasoning, religion, mythology, metaphysics, sublime doctrines, or philosophy set forth to divide or defy the knowledge of God.

C. BRINGING INTO CAPTIVITY

We take every thought prisoner and lead it into captivity to obey Christ. Lascivious, vain and evil thoughts of all kinds are brought down and made obedient to the law of God. This includes all thinking which is contrary to virtue, purity and righteousness.

D. HAVING A READINESS

We stand at all times ready to purge anything opposing the Word of God.

HALLOWEEN NO ES PARA LOS CRISTIANOS

^"Y no participéis en las obras infructuosas de las tinieblas, sino más bien reprendedlas." (Efesios 5:11)

Cuando entregamos nuestro corazón a Jesús hubo muchas prácticas que ponemos detrás de nosotros; la mentira, la inmoralidad, la embriaguez, peleas, etc. Aceptamos la clara enseñanza de la Palabra de Dios que no debemos hacer tales hábitos de práctica en nuestra vida. Muchos, sin embargo, creen que la Biblia no es tan clara en la condena de la participación del creyente en la celebración de Halloween. Rowan Moonstone (un seudónimo), un brujo, ha escrito un panfleto titulado "Los orígenes de Halloween", en la que busca defender Halloween de la "información errónea" contenida en tractos cristianos "lamentablemente inexactas y poco investigado" sobre esta tema.

Moonstone declara en su folleto que para las brujas, los druidas y Wiccans el día todavía tiene un significado religioso. sEs un festival en el que se practican "diversas formas de adivinación". Esta posición se apoya en el artículo siguiente. Una bruja está dando consejos a otra brujas que educan en el hogar en un sitio web titulado "Halloween: Festival de Octubre para los Muertos".

Orígenes: All Hallow Eve, Halloween o Samhain una vez marcaba el final de pastoreo, cuando se recogían y se separaban los rebaños para masacre. Una vez más se utiliza el tiempo presente y describe Halloween como "Un Dia Sacrado". Ella también aboga por muchas de las actividades condenadas específicamente en Deuteronomio 18:9-12. Para esto, el Señor responde en Proverbios 3: 7 "No seas sabio en tu propia opinión; temer a Jehová y apártate del mal ", y 8:13" El temor de Jehová es aborrecer el mal; Odio el orgullo y la arrogancia, el mal camino y la boca perversa." ¿Trataremos de empujar los límites de nuestra fe para ver hasta dónde podemos llegar? ¿O vamos a tratar de servir al Señor con todo nuestro corazón, alma, mente y fuerza? "¡Ay de los que llaman al mal bien y al bien mal, que dan oscuridad por luz y la luz por tinieblas, que ponen lo amargo por dulce y lo dulce por amargo" (Isaías 5:20).

El Señor equivale la madurez espiritual con la capacidad de discernir entre el bien y el mal. Pablo escribió a los corintios que deben "dejar de pensar como niños. En lo que se refiere al mal seamos niños, pero en su forma de pensar ser adultos "(1 Corintios 14:20). El autor de Hebreos hace aún más clara cuando dice: "Pero el alimento sólido es para los adultos, que por el uso tienen los sentidos ejercitados en el discernimiento del bien y del mal" (Hebreos 05:14).

Para aquellos que todavía insisten en que pueden participar en este tipo de actividades con la conciencia tranquila, hay otro aspecto que pensar: el ejemplo que eres a los que te rodean. "Si, pues, coméis o bebéis, o hacéis otra cosa, hacedlo todo para la gloria de Dios. No hacer que alguien tropiece, si Judios, griegos o la iglesia de Dios; así como yo trato de agradar a todo el mundo en todos los sentidos. Porque yo no busco mi propio bien, sino el bien de muchos, para que sean salvos "(1 Corintios 10: 31-33).

Es curioso observar que en el mismo aliento que Pablo dice: "El amor debe ser sincero", dice "Odio lo que es malo; Seguid lo bueno "(Romanos 12: 9). Si tenemos amor sincero por nuestros hermanos que haremos todo lo que podamos dar un buen ejemplo y no ser una piedra de tropiezo para ellos (Romanos 14: 16-23, I Corintios 8: 7-13).

El débil o nuevo hermano que ve u oye de uno de nosotros participando en Halloween puede ser llevado o se sienten presionados a participar también, a pesar de que no tiene la conciencia clara sobre la actividad. Para él, entonces la actividad es claramente pecado, porque no proviene de fe. Este hermano habría sido empujado hacia este estado pecaminoso por su indulgencia.

Considere otro aspecto de esta; ¿quién de nosotros es más débil que nuestros hijos? ¿Podemos tomar el riesgo de que al vernos participar, aunque muy marginalmente, en una actividad plagada de ocultismo? Jesús tuvo palabras duras para aquellos que causaría tales pequeños tropiecen! (Mateo 18: 6). Trabajamos tan duro para protegerlos del mundo malo que les rodea, vamos a ser culpables de corromperlos por el bien de una celebración de ese mal? "No se dejen engañar: Las malas compañías corrompen el buen carácter" (I Corintios 15:33).

Lo mejor que podemos hacer por nuestra relación con Jesús es dedicarnos enteramente a Él, "... Vamos a despojémonos de todo peso y del pecado que nos asedia, y corramos con paciencia la carrera que tenemos por. Fijemos la mirada en Jesús, el autor y consumador de la fe" (Hebreos 12: 1-2) ¿Qué tan fijos pueden estar ojos en Jesús si estamos pasando una noche pensando en la oscuridad?

HALLOWEEN IS NOT FOR CHRISTIANS

"Take no part in the worthless deeds of evil and darkness; instead, expose them." (Ephesians 5:11)

When we gave our heart to Jesus there were many practices we put behind us; lying, immorality, drunkenness, brawling, etc. We accepted the clear teaching of the Word of God that we should not make such habits a practice in our life. Many, however, feel that the bible is not so clear in condemning the believer’s participation in the celebration of Halloween. They would say that it is a “gray area” where each man must be convinced in his own mind. Is this true? Let us examine, from a biblical and historical perspective, what the bible has to say.

Reference materials are in general agreement about the origins of the practices of Halloween. According to secular sources, the traditions of Halloween are based upon the worship of false gods, contact with the dead, foretelling the future, and communing with evil spirits. Does the bible have anything to say about these practices?

The worship of false gods is condemned numerous times in both the Old and New Testaments and is emphasized so strongly that it is the very first of the commandments given to Moses on Mt. Sinai (Exodus 20:2-3, Deuteronomy 11:16; 18:9-14, Psalm 81:9, John 5:21).

In Deuteronomy 18:9-14; we see a list of the activities upon which Halloween was established, and the practitioners thereof are labeled “detestable.” Those habits are, in fact, the very reason the Pagan nations were driven out of the Promised Land.

In Amos 5:14, God tells Israel, “Seek good, not evil, that you may live. Then the LORD God Almighty will be with you, just as you say he is.” He goes on in the next verse to say, “Hate evil, love good.” Note the emphasis “just as you say He is.” Even though one may be making a profession of faith, Amos is clearly saying that God is not with those who are actually seeking evil, instead of good. Peter reminds us of this when he says “…the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and His ears are attentive to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil” (I Peter 3:12).

Some say, “But all of that was ages ago. None of that significance remains. It is now a harmless kids holiday, isn’t it?” Let’s see just what significance, if any, there is in the modern holiday of Halloween.

Rowan Moonstone (a pseudonym), a self-described witch, has written a pamphlet entitled “The Origins of Halloween,” in which he seeks to defend Halloween from the “erroneous information” contained in “woefully inaccurate and poorly researched” Christian tracts on the subject.

Moonstone states in his pamphlet that according to witches, Druids and Wiccans the day still holds religious significance. It is a festival during which “various forms of divination” are practiced. This position is supported in the following article. A witch is giving tips to other homeschooling Witches at a website entitled “Halloween: October Festival of the Dead”.

Origins: All Hallow’s Eve, Halloween or Samhain once marked the end of grazing, when herds were collected and separated for slaughter. For farmers, it is the time at which anything not made use of in the garden loses its’ life essence, and is allowed to rot. Halloween is the original new year, when the Wheel of the Year finishes: debts are paid, scores settled, funereal rites observed and the dead put to rest before the coming winter. On this night, the veil between our world and the spirit world is negligible, and the dead may return to walk amongst us. Halloween is the night to ensure that they have been honored, fed and satisfied–and is the best time of the year for gaining otherworldly insight through divination and psychic forecasting. Recognition of the unseen world and the ordinary person’s access to it, as well as the acceptance of death as a natural and illusory part of life is central to the sacred nature of this holiday. 

Note her use of the present tense to describe the various aspects of Halloween. Of special interest is the term “sacred nature of this holiday.” Further down the webpage, in an article entitled “Elemental Homeschooling,” she gives the following suggestions for how to enlighten your children on (and about) Halloween:

As much fun as it is for children to get great bags of sweets at Halloween, the origins of this time of year are sacred and meaningful. It is the time when nature appears to die, so it becomes natural to consider those who have passed away to the spirit world. Bring out pictures of your ancestors and re-tell the old family stories to those who haven’t heard them yet. Remind yourself where you come from. Water is the element of Autumn, and the fluidity of emotion is most apparent in the Fall. We retreat within, burrow down into our homes in order to stay warm for the coming winter. We look within, and easily seek inner communication. Halloween is the perfect time to link the deepening of emotion with finding new ways to search for interior wisdom. Likewise, this is a fun and exciting holiday: theatrics, costuming, and acting out new personas express our ability to change. Here are some ideas for integrating this holy day with home schooling lessons.

Methods of inner communication with divination tools: tarot, palmistry, astrology, dream journaling … ? archetypes: fairy tales, storytelling the Dark Ages, the medieval era, issues about superstition and eternal truths, skeletons: the skeletal system, organs, anatomy …issues about death, persecution (using the Burning Times as a beginning point for older children), mysteries, the spirit world night: nocturnal animals, bodies of water: rivers, lakes, ocean, ponds …

Once again she uses the present tense and describes Halloween as a “Holy Day.” She also advocates many of the activities specifically condemned in Deuteronomy 18:9-12. Obviously, there is a lot more to Halloween than some costumed kids gathering candy. It is clearly a festival of the Kingdom of Darkness. The scripture has a lot to say about participating in such activities: II Corinthians 6:14-17, I Thessalonians5:22, John 3:19-21, Romans 13:12.

There will certainly be people who will still rationalize ways to participate, at some level, in the festivities of Halloween. To this the Lord replies in Proverbs 3:7 “Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and shun evil,” and 8:13 “To fear the LORD is to hate evil; I hate pride and arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech.” Will we seek to push the boundaries of our faith to see just how far we can go? Or will we seek to serve the Lord with all our hearts, souls, minds, and strength? “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter”(Isaiah 5:20).

The Lord equates Spiritual maturity with the ability to discern good and evil. Paul wrote to the Corinthians that they should “stop thinking like children. In regard to evil be infants, but in your thinking be adults” (1 Corinthians 14:20). The author of Hebrews makes it even more clear when he says “But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil” (Hebrews 5:14).

For those who would still insist that they can participate in such activities with a clear conscience, there is another aspect to think about: the example you are to those around you. “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. Do not cause anyone to stumble, whether Jews, Greeks or the church of God– even as I try to please everybody in every way. For I am not seeking my own good but the good of many, so that they may be saved” (1 Corinthians 10:31-33).

It is curious to note that in the same breath that Paul says “Love must be sincere” he says “Hate what is evil; Cling to what is good”(Romans 12:9). If we have sincere love for our brethren we will do all that we can to set a good example and not be a stumbling block to them (Romans 14:16-23, I Corinthians 8:7-13).

The weak or new brother who sees or hears of one of us participating in Halloween may be led or feel pressured to participate himself, even though he does not have a clear conscience about the activity. For him then the activity is clearly sin, because it does not come from faith. This brother would have been pushed toward this sinful state by your indulgence.

Consider another aspect of this; who among us is weaker than our children? Can we take the risk of them seeing us participating, however marginally, in an activity rife with occultism? Jesus had harsh words for those who would cause such little ones to stumble! (Matthew 18:6). We work so hard at protecting them from the evil world around them, will we then be guilty of corrupting them for the sake of a celebration of that very evil? “Do not be misled: Bad company corrupts good character” (I Corinthians 15:33).

The best thing we can do for our relationship with Jesus is devote ourselves entirely to Him, “…Let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles and let us run with endurance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith" (Hebrews 12:1-2). How fixed on Jesus can our eyes be if we are spending a night thinking on darkness?
