THE IMPORTANTS OF COMMUNICATION

“These things said he: and after that he saith unto them, Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep. Then said his disciples, Lord, if he sleep, he shall do well. Howbeit Jesus spake of his death: but they thought that he had spoken of taking of rest in sleep. Then said Jesus unto them plainly, Lazarus is dead.” (John 11:11-14)

The story is told of a woman who went to her pastor for counseling because she and her husband were having marital problems. After a few preliminaries, the pastor told her that he was going to ask her a few questions that would help identify the problems if she would answer his questions as openly as possible. She agreed, and he began: “Do you have any grounds?” She replied, “Why yes we do, we have about ten acres north of town.” “No ma’am,” the pastor said, “that’s not what I meant. What I mean is do you have a grudge?” “Oh no,” she responded,” but we do have a car port.” “No.” said the pastor, “What I mean is, does your husband beat you up?” “Beat me up? Oh no, I get up before he does every morning.” In complete exasperation, the pastor said, “Lady, you’re not listening to me. Why are you having trouble with your husband?” “Well,” she said, “my husband just doesn’t know how to communicate!”

How important communication is, and how frustrating it is when it is lacking. How very difficult. God communicates with us as clearly and concisely as He can, and yet some still don’t get it! Many think that God doesn’t talk to them; maybe that’s not the problem. It may be that we’re not listening closely enough.
